About Us
Nadine was born in the heart of Africa in Rwanda, a country rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. Her early years were imbued with the vibrant colours and lively traditions of African culture, a love that has remained with her throughout her life. Nadine learned how to crochet at her Grandmother's knee but her childhood was abruptly disrupted by the Rwandan Genocide. As a teenage girl, she was forced to flee her homeland in search of safety, leaving behind everything familiar.
Despite the harrowing experiences of displacement and loss, Nadine carried with her
the indomitable spirit of her culture. The colours, sounds, and rhythms of Rwanda
remained a source of comfort and inspiration. In her new life, she sought to preserve
and celebrate the vibrancy of her heritage, finding solace in the art, music, and
stories that connected her to her roots.
Nadine's journey from Rwanda to her new home was one of resilience and hope.
She navigated the challenges of starting over in a foreign land, where the memories
of her past and the realities of her present often collided. Yet, through it all, she
never lost sight of the beauty and richness of her African culture. It was this love that
gave her the strength to rebuild her life and share her story with the world, reminding
everyone of the enduring power of heritage and the human spirit.
Nadine's story is one of creativity and resilience, spanning continents and cultures.
Twenty years ago, she moved from Brussels to Newcastle, a city that has since
become her home. With her, she brought a rich tapestry of experiences and an
enduring love for African culture. In Newcastle, Nadine found a way to channel her
passion and memories into her work as a craft artist.
For two decades, Nadine has dedicated herself to mastering the art of hand-making
products that beautifully incorporate African cloth. Her creations are not just objects;
they are vibrant expressions of her heritage and creativity. Each piece she crafts is a
testament to her skill and imagination, blending traditional African designs with
contemporary aesthetics.
Nadine's work invites you to share in her joy and appreciation for the vivid colours,
intricate patterns, and cultural significance of African-inspired design. Through her
artistry, she hopes to bring a piece of Africa's vibrancy and warmth into your life,
allowing you to experience the same pleasure and connection that she feels with
every creation.
